However, for those who suffer from it, it is quite disabling. It is known for the following symptoms:

  • Tinnitus – ringing or other noise in the ear
  • Vertigo – a sensation that you or your surroundings are spinning
  • Temporary hearing loss which may become permanent if not cared for
  • A feeling of congestion or fullness in the affected ear

Researchers in the medical field, for many years now, have concluded Meniere’s disease is the result of an excess fluid build-up in the middle ear. As a result of this, many doctors are still prescribing antihistamines and medications to reduce fluid retention to those with Meniere’s. However, recent research has revealed new clues about what may be the actual cause of Meniere’s disease.

The Root of the Problem with Meniere’s Disease

While excess fluid may be the case with some who suffer from Meniere’s disease, it must be noted that not all suffering from this condition have it. Because of this, one upper cervical chiropractor decided to search for an additional reason for the condition. He studied 300 patients suffering from Meniere’s disease over a course of 6 years. His results were quite enlightening. For one thing, all of the patients had one thing in common: a misalignment in the upper cervical spine. Each of them recalled having suffered some type of whiplash trauma due to vehicle accidents or other injuries to the head and neck. The conclusion, then, can be that there is a definite link between neck trauma and Meniere’s disease. When treated for a neck misalignment by this chiropractor, the patients saw their vertigo, in particular, drop by an average of 90%. As many as 97% of those in the study saw a decrease in symptoms.
